19 times when the movie version was as good as the book
+12

Inspiration for movies comes from many places: plays, songs, true stories, but books remain the most frequently visited well for cinematic inspiration.

This list serves as a reminder that many of the best movies ever made were based on books. Going to go out on a limb here and say that most people probably don’t know that these movies have literary origins because the film versions are just as good, if not—in some cases at least—better!

Here are the 19 best, in no particular order.

  1. The Talented Mr. Ripley
  2. BlacKkKlansman
  3. The color purple- 1985
  4. The boy in the striped pajamas
  5. Forrest Gump
  6. Persepolis
  7. Schindler’s list
  8. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
  9. M.A.S.H 1970
  10. No Country for Old Men
  11. 12 years a slave
  12. The Bourne Identity
  13. One that flew over the cuckoo’s nest
